Mumbi
Mumbi (meaning 'Molder' or 'Creator') is the first woman and founding mother of the Kikuyu people. According to Kikuyu creation mythology, Mumbi was found by Gikuyu at Mukurwe wa Gathanga, placed there by Ngai as a wife for the first man. Mumbi's name reflects her role as the molder and creator of the Kikuyu people, for she bore nine daughters who became the founders of the nine Kikuyu clans: Wanjiru, Wambui, Njeri, Wanjiku, Nyambura, Wairimu, Waithira, Wangari, and Wangui.
