Munkholmsånden
Munkholmsånden (the Spirit of Munkholmen) is a ghost that haunts Munkholmen island in Trondheimsfjorden. Munkholmen had a Benedictine monastery (Nidarholm) from the 1100s until the Reformation in 1537, when the monastery was destroyed on orders from Danish general Johan Rantzau. The island later served as a prison, a fortress, and an execution site. The ghost is said to be a monk who was killed when the monastery was sacked, or alternatively the spirit of a prisoner executed on the island.
