Nāc
Nāc is the Lao term for naga, the great river serpent of Lao Buddhist folklore: a huge, usually cobra-hooded serpent, sometimes multi-headed, scales shining, dwelling in the Mekong beneath water palaces. It brings floods or rain by human merit, guards temples and villages, and must be fed and respected. It is bound to the Naga Fireballs phenomenon and the Luang Prabang naak legend.
