Nafanua
The greatest warrior goddess of Samoa, daughter of Saveasi'uleo (god of Pulotu, the spirit underworld) and Tilafaiga. Born a female, Nafanua was hidden in the forest by her mother out of shame at giving birth to a girl. She emerged as a fierce warrior when Samoa was oppressed by tyrannical rulers. She disguised her chest so enemies would not know she was a woman. Nafanua led rebellions that freed the people of Savai'i from bondage, then brought peace after winning the wars between eastern and western districts.
