Nan Samohl
Nan Samohl is the sacred eel of Nan Madol, the bodily form of Nahnisohnsapw, 'Honored Spirit of the Land,' whose worship was the heart of the Great Ritual (Pwong Lapalap). The priests of Nan Madol kept the eel in a stone well on the islet of Idehd and fed it the innards of sacrificial turtles. Oral histories recount canals cut so that eels could enter the city from the sea, and archaeological evidence supports the account.
