Nanapush
Nanapush is a spirit sent by Kishelamakank (the Creator) to restore harmony to the Lenape people after they fell into conflict over a magical bear tooth. Nanapush gathered the warring peoples together at a council fire and introduced the sacred pipe ceremony, teaching them to smoke tobacco as a sign of peace. He declared that no pipe could be lit in anger and that to smoke together was to call the Creator as witness. Nanapush's teachings laid the foundation for Lenape spiritual practices and the use of the sacred pipe in ceremonies
