Nats (37 Great Nats)
The 37 Great Nats are the official pantheon of Burmese spirit religion, formalized by King Anawrahta in the 11th century. Most were humans who met violent or unjust deaths and became powerful spirits—kings, princes, and commoners—honored through offerings and festivals like Taungbyon. Including Thagyamin (from Hindu Indra) and Mahagiri, their cult coexists with Theravada Buddhism.
