Nav
Nav (Polish Nawia, Ukrainian Mavka/Nyavka) denotes both the souls of the prematurely dead (tragic deaths, suicides, drowned, warlocks) and the Slavic underworld ruled by Veles. As spirits (nawie), they appear as birds, hostile and jealous of the living. As a place, Nav lies across a living sea or deep underground, guarded by a zmey; souls later reincarnate.
