Nindu

deity · Guinea-Bissau · West Africa

Nindu is the creator sky god of the Añaki, the Bijago of Canhabaque in Guinea-Bissau. He is a distant god who is not invoked directly; the cult is addressed to intermediate powers called arebuko (sing. orebuko). Nindu gave the arebuko to humans. These powers take the form of natural or manufactured objects, some with proper names and others known only by a common noun.
