Nøkk
Nøkk (also known as Nøkken, Näcken, Nykkjen) is a male freshwater spirit in Norwegian and Scandinavian folklore who dwells in dark lakes, rivers, and ponds. One of the oldest mentioned water spirits - first references date to the Viking Age. The nøkk is a master musician who plays violin or harp to lure people into the water to drown. He is also a shape-shifter who can appear as a handsome young man with long hair (to seduce women), as a monster of twigs and seaweed with glowing eyes (Norwegian tradition), or as a pale grey horse. Despite his malevolent nature, he is often portrayed as lonely
