Nonoma
Nonoma is the Cheyenne spirit of thunder, a powerful being who controls storms and brings rain to the plains. When Nonoma flaps his wings, thunder rolls across the sky. He is both feared and respected—his storms can bring life-giving rain for crops and buffalo or destructive hail and lightning. The Cheyenne perform ceremonies to honor Nonoma and ask for his blessing. The first thunder of spring signals the time for planting and the Sun Dance ceremony.
