Nzame

creator-deity · Cameroon · Central Africa

Nzame is the first person of the Fang trinity and the creator-father of Fang tradition. The Fang, who migrated from Cameroon toward Gabon, developed the trinity as a syncretic form drawing on their own mythology, Mitsogho and Mpongwe beliefs, and Christianity. Nzame Mebeghe holds the powers of the Father; Mebeghe is compared to Jesus Christ, and Gningone Mebeghe to Eve, the Virgin or the Holy Spirit. The trinity is the subject of theological speculation and of myths known to the fully initiated.
