Ongon Spirit
The ongon, plural ongod, is the spirit of Mongolian and Siberian shamanism housed in a consecrated idol and tended like a living being. Deceased shamans become ongod, and black shamans summon their spirits up while drumming in trance. Ongod are felt to dwell in liminal places, at river mouths and on the borders between taiga and steppe.
