Osiris

god · Egypt · North Africa

Osiris is the ancient Egyptian god of the afterlife, death, and resurrection. Murdered by his brother Set and restored by his sister-wife Isis, he became ruler of the underworld, judging the dead at the Weighing of the Heart. As a dying-and-returning god he symbolized regeneration, the Nile flood, and the promise of life after death, with his cult center at Abydos.
