Owl Nature-Spirit of Haida

nature-spirit · Canada · North America

In Haida tradition the owl is bound up with the spirit world: its call is read as an omen, often of death, and in the story of Kwel-Kwel a girl's marriage to the owl founds the Owl crest of her descendants. As a night-flying spirit being it belongs to the unseen realm, though no generic nature-spirit guardian is recorded.
