Owl Spirit of Mi'kmaq
The Mi'kmaq know the owl as kokokwes, a name drawn from the barred owl's calling, and place the Owl among the celestial hunters of star-lore: in the Mi'kmaq story of the Great Bear, the Owl is one of the seven hunters who pursue the bear around the northern sky, explaining the turning of the stars.
