Owl Trickster of Mi'kmaq

trickster · Canada · North America

In Mi'kmaq oral tradition the owl appears in stories as a creature of the night, often a messenger or a figure with supernatural associations. The Mi'kmaq culture hero is Glooscap (Kluskap), however, and a specific 'owl trickster' is not independently attested in Mi'kmaq sources; the record likely conflates owl motifs with trickster cycles of other Algonquian peoples.
