Owl Deity of Blackfoot

deity · United States · North America

No owl deity is attested in Blackfoot religion. The Blackfoot (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani) instead held that owls could be inhabited by the spirits of medicine men, and owl feathers marked warriors and leaders, as in the black-dog society leader's owl-feather bonnet. The owl is a medicine bird, never a god.
