Oya
Oya is the powerful Yoruba orisha of winds, storms, lightning, transformation, and the Niger River. Her name derives from "o ya" meaning "she tore." She is the only orisha who can control the Egungun (spirits of the dead), a power granted by Babalú Ayé. Known as the "mother of nine" for her nine stillborn children, Oya guards the gates of the cemetery and escorts souls to the afterlife. She is the goddess of the marketplace, change, and rebirth. Married first to Ogun, then to Shango, she and Shango together represent the full force of the storm — her wind precedes his thunder
