Paiyatuma

spirit · United States · North America

Paiyatuma, the Zuni Kachina of Dew and Dawn, is the flute-playing spirit who, in Zuni origin myths, brought the people the new music of his flute and led the seven Corn Maidens back to the pueblo after their wanderings. A patron of spring rains and the growing season, he is often cited as the model for the widespread Kokopelli Flute Player.
