Paiyatuma (god of dawn and music)

deity · United States · North America

Paiyatuma (Paiyatamu), the Zuni God of Dew and of the Dawn, is a flute-playing kachina celebrated in Zuni origin myths. He brought the Zuni the new music of the flute and presided over the Corn Maidens, and Zuni belief ties him to the life-giving moisture of morning and spring; scholars regard him as a probable prototype of the Pan-Southwestern Kokopelli Flute Player.
