Patupaiarehe
Patupaiarehe (also Tūrehu) are fairy-like people of Māori lore, fair-skinned with reddish-blond hair and no tattoos, dwelling in misty forests and mountains. Nocturnal and shy, they avoid sunlight and cooked food and sometimes lured humans away to bear red-haired children. The subtribe Ngāti Rua is said to live on Mt Ngongotahā, sometimes read as Aotearoa's pre-Māori inhabitants.
