Perchta
Frau Perchta (also Berchta, 'the Bright One') is a powerful winter goddess and guardian of moral order in Alpine Germanic folklore, widely regarded as the southern equivalent of Frau Holle. She belongs to the pre-Christian pantheon of continental Germanic peoples and was once venerated as a white-robed deity who oversaw spinning, weaving, and the domestic virtues. During the twelve Rauhnächte (Rough Nights) between Christmas and Epiphany, Perchta roams the countryside entering homes to judge the behavior of children and servants throughout the year. She rewards the industrious with a small sil
