Pesta
Pesta is the personification of the Black Death (bubonic plague) in Norwegian folklore. She appears as an old woman carrying a rake or a broom. Where she uses the rake, some survive (as the rake's teeth let people through); where she uses the broom, everyone dies. Pesta travels through the countryside visiting farms, and her arrival means the plague will follow. Some traditions say she is the ghost of a woman who survived the actual Black Death in 1349-1350.
