Phoenix
The phoenix of Egypt is the immortal sun bird, born of the east, that dies in flame and rises renewed from its own ashes. It is linked to the bennu heron of Heliopolis, symbol of Ra and the rising sun, and to the cycle of death and rebirth that sustains all life. Ancient writers set its life span at many centuries.
