Phoenix
The Phoenix is a legendary solar bird first described by Herodotus (Histories 2.73): a golden, purple and crimson bird of eagle size that builds a nest of spices, dies, and is reborn from its own remains, carrying the parent's body to Heliopolis in Egypt. Greeks read it as an emblem of renewal and cyclical time, later of immortality and Christian resurrection; it is linked to the Egyptian bennu.
