Pipe Spirit
In Blackfoot tradition the Medicine Pipe came to the people through a supernatural encounter: a woman appeared to a fasting man with a pipe adorned with eagle feathers and its prayers, or the Thunder spirit delivered it where lightning struck. The pipe mediates between humans and the spirit world, and its keeper observes strict taboos and yearly renewal ceremonies.
