Quỷ
Quỷ is the Vietnamese term for ghost and demon, from the Chinese character 鬼, the soul of the dead. In folk belief quỷ are souls unable to reincarnate, wandering the world; in Buddhist cosmology the term includes malevolent beings (Ác quỷ, Ngạ quỷ, yaksha, la sát), and Cao Đài holds vengeful souls transform into them. Hideous and fierce, they harm humans and are warded off by temples and amulets.
