Rana Niejta
Rana Niejta is the Sami spring and vegetation goddess, the daughter of the high god Radien-attje and his wife Raedieahkka. Her name means 'the green' or 'the fertile fields.' She makes the southern slopes of mountains turn green so hungry reindeer have food after the long Arctic winter. She is one of three divine sisters who together control the seasonal cycle: Sala Niejta (Sun's daughter) ends winter's cold, Rana Niejta brings forth vegetation, and Saivo Niejta governs the underworld. She belongs to the Radien family of spirits — a group of deities who had power over human lives. A bronze sta
