Ranta

monster · Pakistan · South Asia

Ranta is a monstrous forest creature in Pakistani (Kashmiri/Pahari) folklore — glowing yellow eyes, matted hair, shape-shifter kidnapping travelers in heavy snow, then vanishing. Documented in Kashmir Valley, Pir Panjal oral traditions as winter mountain hazard. Similar to 'Barmanu' (wild man) but more demonic. Part of northwestern Himalayan folk belief, not Baloch.
