Ravana

demon · India · South Asia

Ravana is the ten-headed demon king of Lanka in the Indian epic Ramayana. A great scholar and devotee of Shiva, he abducted Sita, wife of Rama, leading to the great war in which Rama defeated him. His complex character — learned, powerful, yet doomed by pride and desire — makes him one of the most studied figures in South and Southeast Asian literature.
