Raven Ancestor-Spirit of Kwakiutl
The Raven is a creator and culture hero of the Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiutl). In the creation account, Raven (Kwekwaxa'we, 'Great-Inventor,' also U'melth) flew over the waters and made islands by dropping pebbles into the sea, then created the trees and grass and, after failed attempts, shaped the first man and woman from wood and clay; he brought the people the moon, fire, salmon and the tides.
