Raven Spirit of Hopi
Crows and ravens are genuinely important in Hopi tradition: the Crow Mother kachina (Angwusnasomtaka, also Angwushahai-i) is a chief kachina who supervises the Powamu initiation whipping and is called the mother of all the kachinas, and the crow acts as a Hopi messenger between the living and the dead. Its black plumage symbolizes the west, maturity and wisdom.
