River Woman (Zapotec)
The record's 'River Woman (Zapotec)' is Lucía Zenteno, the radiant Zapotec woman of Oaxacan tradition so beautiful that the sun itself fell in love with her and carried her away. Her husband pursued her into the sky, but a jealous moon spirit parted them forever. The story, retold by Alejandro Cruz Martínez in 'The Woman Who Outshone the Sun' (1991), is Mexican, not North American.
