The god of agriculture and cultivated food in Cook Islands mythology. Rongo was one of the twin sons of Avatea (the first man) and Papa (the earth goddess), born alongside his twin Tangaroa. The twins divided dominion over all things between them. Rongo is also the grandfather of Rangi, the first king of Mangaia who pulled the island up from the underworld Avaiki.
