Rongo (Rongomatane)
God of agriculture, cultivated food, peace, and the kumara (sweet potato). Rongo is one of the great children of Ranginui and Papatuanuku. After the separation of the parents, Rongo and his brother Haumia were relentlessly pursued by Tawhirimatea's storms. Their mother Papatuanuku hid them in her body, and they became the basis of cultivated and wild foods respectively. Rongo is associated with peace, arts, and the peaceful pursuits of civilization. His domain is the cultivated fields and gardens, and he taught humanity how to grow food. In some traditions, Rongo is also a god of the moon
