Roro Jonggrang (Slender Maiden)
Roro Jonggrang is the tragic princess at the heart of the Javanese legend explaining the origin of Prambanan Temple. When the powerful prince Bandung Bondowoso fell in love with her and she rejected him, he attacked and conquered her father's kingdom. Forced to consider marriage, Roro Jonggrang set an impossible condition: Bandung must build 1,000 temples in one night. Using his supernatural army of invisible spirits (jin), he nearly completed the task. Desperate, Roro Jonggrang ordered her maids to light fires and pound rice, tricking the spirits into thinking dawn had arrived. Enraged by the
