Rusalka (Water Spirit)
Rusalka are the female water spirits of Slavic folklore, often the souls of drowned maidens who sing and lure travelers to the water. During Rusalnaya week in late spring they leave the rivers to dance in fields and orchards, and peasants would avoid bathing and leave them offerings; they are both tragic and dangerous figures.
