Sætrevette
Sætrevette (seter wight) is a nature spirit that guards the mountain pastures and seter huts in Vestlandet. The sætrevette protects the cattle, goats, and sheep taken to the summer pastures in the high mountains. Every seter (summer mountain farm) had its own sætrevette who ensured the animals were healthy, the milk yield was good, and the cheese-making succeeded. The sætrevette could appear as a small grey woman, a beautiful girl, or an old man. She would help with the milking and cheese-making if treated respectfully, but would sour the milk, hide the cheese curds, or lead the cattle astray
