Saka

guardian · Singapore · Southeast Asia

Saka is a guardian familiar of Malay folklore: a spirit inherited within a family or acquired through a pact, bound to protect its keeper in exchange for offerings. Taking forms from an old man to a tiger or monitor lizard, it watches over its place, brings luck, and punishes disrespect; refusing an inherited saka is said to bring illness and misfortune.
