Salmon Giant of Zapotec
Not independently attested as a salmon giant in Zapotec folklore. Salmon do not inhabit the rivers of Oaxaca, and no Zapotec source records a giant salmon guarding swamps or a salmon that becomes human. Salmon hold a central place in Pacific Northwest and northeast Asian traditions, not Mesoamerican ones. The record appears to be a northern fish motif misplaced onto Zapotec myth.
