Salmon Trickster of Maya
Not independently attested as a salmon trickster in Maya folklore. Salmon do not occur in Maya lands, and no Popol Vuh or ethnographic source records a salmon trickster. Maya trickster figures derive from local animals, such as the rabbit (the moon rabbit) and the howler monkey. The record is a northern fish motif wrongly assigned to Maya tradition.
