The Saltigue
Saltigue (saltigi) are the hereditary priests and priestesses of the Serer people of Senegal, guardians of the traditional religion and its pangool — the ancestral spirits and sacred forces believed to dwell in nature. They conduct rainmaking, healing, and initiation rites, preserve oral history, and maintain the ritual calendar alongside Islam in Serer communities.
