Samodiva
Ethereal woodland nymphs and water spirits (самодива, samodivi) appearing as eternally young maidens with flowing golden/blonde hair, pale glowing skin, and hypnotic eyes. They inhabit deep forests, caves, and remote mountain regions near rivers, springs, wells, and lakes—particularly in the Pirin, Vitosha, Rila, and Rhodope Mountains. Their haunting, melancholic songs are sung at twilight, creating an irresistible compulsion that lures travelers and shepherds to follow them—often to watery deaths by drowning, or to dance until exhausted and die
