Sangkuriang is the tragic hero of Sundanese legend from West Java, who unknowingly falls in love with his own mother Dayang Sumbi — a princess blessed with eternal youth by the gods. When Dayang Sumbi recognizes her son by a scar on his forehead (from a childhood wound), she sets impossible tasks to prevent their marriage: he must dam the Citarum River, build a vast lake, and construct a great boat before sunrise.
