Santa Compaña
A ghostly procession of tormented souls that wanders rural paths at midnight, wearing white hooded cloaks and carrying lit candles. Known in Northern Portugal as Santa Companha or As da Noite (the Night Ones), the procession is led by a living person from the local parish who unknowingly walks under a supernatural curse every night, carrying a cross or cauldron of holy water. The living leader awakens each morning with no memory but growing exhaustion, and will die within weeks unless they pass the curse to another person during the procession. The Santa Compaña's arrival portends imminent dea
