Sea Bear
Gunakadeit, the Tlingit sea wolf or sea monster, is the great being of the outer coast who supplies wealth and food. In the story told at Wrangell, a young man gained Gunakadeit's power by wearing its skin and used it to feed his starving village. Related peoples, including the Tsimshian and Haida, tell of the same marine transformer; its name now labels a fossil sea reptile from southeast Alaska.
