Shir (or Sheed)

Shir (or Sheed) is the Armenian mythical lion — a giant golden or dusty-brown lion with glowing eyes, often depicted with a solar motif or crown. It guards sacred places in the Armenian highlands, tests human courage, and can be tamed by heroes. Fierce when threatened, it represents strength and nobility. The lion appears on Armenia's coat of arms. The name derives from Persian šīr ('lion').
