Si'lat

spirit · Palestine · Middle East and North Africa

The si'lat is a shape-shifting female jinn of Palestinian and wider Arab folklore, kin to the ghoul but wickeder and unable to change her limbs. She lurks in abandoned wells, deep caves, and wasteland, appearing as a seductive woman to lure men to their ruin. Those who answer her falsely are lost, while truth-telling and invoking God may break her hold.
