In Miwok creation stories Silver Fox is a wise creator being who, working with Coyote, shaped the world. Depending on the telling Silver Fox is female or male, but always the quiet, deliberate partner to Coyote's impulsiveness: together they sang and danced the earth into being. Silver Fox appears across northern and central California traditions as a culture hero and a being of the early world.
